Hi there,
It's been a while since the last review. I'm pleased to tell you a bit today about the new compilation from Already Dead tapes and records, which is, as the summary of this paper expressed it quietly, a perfect soundtrack for today.
Already Dead tapes is a very interesting label, with involvement in its editorial choices, and now they are back with this compilation to celebrate their annual "family reunion", which is a real-world festival taking place on each summer.
And... It was for them an opportunity to craft, just for us, a new compilation of their currently hot acts. It's then a nice mix of what does make the label, and, for you, a great deal since you can get some killer songs all along the release, that will give you a good idea of what is nowadays making the overall sound of the label. This is, for sure, an interesting compilation (a.k.a. an annual "sampler") that can be introducing you to what the label has to offer... And, what it has to offer, is, for sure, great !
The release will make you travel, from jazzy -and interesting- tunes to hip hop, indie rock, and... Didn't I notice a No Monster Club-esque noise-pop anthem just now? Not a surprise indeed, since NMC has been a featured artist of the label years ago.
To sum up, it's definitively a good soundtrack for your everyday life, with relaxing, atmospheric songs, and also, powerful tracks as well. The good thing in such a compilation residing obviously in its natural born variety, and all the best is done to provide enjoyment for the listener... While keeping the whole thing completely sharp, and the demanding audience shall for sure find something interesting in the whole thing.
Some tracks are quite demanding indeed, you can be sure that with this release, a bridge is established from enjoyable popish songs to IDM-like layered sound textures, and, after all, this is for sure a great mix, which could perfectly be the next big release of the current years... It's a perfect snapshot of what nowadays' artists use to work on, as of per usual with this label's editorial guidelines. The release is currently available in a name your price, with no minimum, manner, and I can only say that you should give it a listen.
