Hello, I'm here with a new music review, this time for an album of an artist that I discovered many years ago, called "tiny moon".
He started his career with now-impossible-to-find lofi, stripped down albums, very minimalistic and, also, moving. Now he's back with "julius", his new release. Here we got complete rock pieces, with drums, guitars, vocals... Think of a calmed-down Pixies mixed with Sonic Youth, for an excellent alternative rock album that could easily be enjoyed if you like the artpop/noisepop sound of nowadays' bands like, say, No Monster Club. It is definitively an album that goes in the Velvet Underground bloodline.
This said, the lofi days seem to be quite over for tiny moon, and the production is very clean an pleasant, never sounding vulgar and very precise and accurate to deliver the maximum effect of these energetic and sad songs. The guitar rhythms, the hypnotic quality of the music made me think of Waxdoll, who are so underated.
To speak frankly, you got here a perfect work made by a skilled artist who know exactly how to create pleasant ambiences, how to bring the mood and compose with feelings and musical landscapes. In fact I've never been deceived by any piece of tiny moon's discography and as usual, we got someone who masters the work, and the job seem to be done keenly and passionately, for a result that lets far behind most of the contemporary music acts.
If I had to sum up, I would simply say that I'm quite sure that this album will be for many people one of the best releases of 2020. I would suggest you to check it soon.
